Pedro Lavin is a Latinx, queer visual artist and filmmaker.
With a love for DIY magical realism and fantasy, he defies reality to craft sensual, ethereal worlds in his films and visual art. Sexuality, gender, attraction and fluidity are central themes in his work, and he uses emotion and pathos as a compass that guides the stories he weaves.
Most recently, he directed a short animated film highlighting a sexual assault survivor story for the MeToo organization, which was screened at Sundance Film Festival in 2018, and was called ‘powerful’ by the New York Times. He also completed Sophia, a short film for musician and visual artist Chris Burnett, which went on to win gold at the ORION International Film Festival, and was selected as part of Vimeo’s curated Experimental Film category; and GLAMBEAST, an explosive microfilm and homage to homosexuality.
